چکیده

Batch sorption experiments were carried out to remove As(III) from aqueous solution by using iron based commercial adsorbent Bayoxide. The effects of various experimental parameters, such as initial concentration, contact time and solution pH on the adsorption of As(III) on adsorbent was investigated. The adsorption density increased with increased initial arsenic concentration and contact time. The suitability of Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models to the equilibrium data was investigated for As(III)-adsorbent system. The results showed that equilibrium data fitted Langmuir model best. The monolayer sorption capacity was 7.88 mg/g. Adsorption data were modeled using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. It was shown that the secondorder kinetic equation could best describe the sorption kinetics.

Comparative Studies for Selection of Technologies for Arsenic Removal from Drinking Water

This paper present the possible alternative removal options for the development of safe drinking water supply in the arsenic-affected areas. Each alternative option was studied in the Environmental Engineering Laboratory at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India. In this paper conventional precipitation (Alum and Iron salt) and adsorption (With various types of adsorbent) method ...

Comparison of Barium and Arsenic Concentrations in Well Drinking Water and in Human Body Samples and a Novel Remediation System for These Elements in Well Drinking Water

Health risk for well drinking water is a worldwide problem. Our recent studies showed increased toxicity by exposure to barium alone (≤700 µg/L) and coexposure to barium (137 µg/L) and arsenic (225 µg/L). The present edition of WHO health-based guidelines for drinking water revised in 2011 has maintained the values of arsenic (10 µg/L) and barium (700 µg/L), but not elements such as manganese, ...

Lanthanum functionalized highly ordered mesoporous media: implications of arsenate removal

Human activities and natural processes release arsenic into ground and surface waters creating potentially serious environmental problems for humans and other living organisms [1]. In recognition of this threat, a new arsenic limit of 10lg/l, lowered from the current 50g/l, will become effective in 2006 for drinking water systems in the United States. Consequently, there is an urgent demand for...

Ultra-long Magnetic Nanochains for Highly Efficient Arsenic Removal from Water.

The contamination of drinking water with naturally occurring arsenic is a global health threat. Filters that are packed with adsorbent media with a high affinity for arsenic have been used to de-contaminate water - generally iron or aluminium oxides are favored materials. Recently, nanoparticles have been introduced as adsorbent media due to their superior efficiency compared to their bulk coun...

Anaerobic microbial mobilization and biotransformation of arsenate adsorbed onto activated alumina.

Due to the enactment of a stricter drinking water standard for arsenic in the United States, larger quantities of arsenic will be treated resulting in larger volumes of treatment residuals. The current United States Environmental Protection Agency recommendation is to dispose spent adsorbent residuals from arsenic treatment into non-hazardous municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills. The potential...
